Thinking of redecorating - start with a moodboard and here is why.

One of our favourite parts of every project is the development of the design scheme. It is the most creative stage of the process where you take on a brief and you explore fabrics, textures and materials in order to create a stylish and harmonious look.

A good starting point for developing a concept, be it for yourself or a client, is to create a moodboard – it is essentially a visual collage that gives you an idea and a feel for the design. Moodboards can be very helpful when it comes to combining your own ideas with inspiration you find elsewhere, so start collecting images, colour swatches and fabric samples and let the ideas come together.

That way, you can easily pair the design elements you are already committed to with the overall style you hope to achieve and you don't always have to replace all your furniture to complete a look. For example - we had to retain the dining table and chairs pictured below and make them work within the new scheme.

See the Before & After...

Moodboards can be whatever you need them to be — from a brainstorming collage to an orderly project outline. They are a presentation of the style, textures, pieces of furniture, fixings, accessories etc. that are intended to be used to create the final look of a room. They will also help you to focus your ideas so that you don't start going over the top – it is very easy to get distracted once you start buying things!

If you are planning to redecorate, you probably have seen lots of pictures that you like in magazines, but you are finding it difficult to get an idea of how that style might work in your own home without trying it out. A moodboard helps you sort this process out, it brings the ideas together and allows you to visualise.

We hope you like these transformations and if you are thinking of redecorating and would like some help with your interior design, please contact us for an initial consultation. We can discuss tastes and styles together so we can understand your vision and capture its heart.
