In our blog today we will be exploring the 6 interior design trends you will be seeing a lot more of in 2024 and those that will slowly fade out, as we focus on sustainability, enduring materials and timeless pieces.

What's In

Reupholstery of a classic dining suite
#1: Quiet Luxury

Luxury is not about excessive opulence, it is about creating an environment that feels indulgent. You can create this by emphasising on classic, investment pieces that are timeless and that you can build a room around. Classic shapes can evolve through re-upholstery, so look out for those luxurious, soft, textured fabrics and warm rich woods. For larger, more dominant pieces, choose a quieter pattern.

Tone-on-tone layering of colour to create balance and visual interest - interior design trends 2024
#2: Tone-on-Tone

Layering a single hue of colour within a space is a great way to elevate an interior by emphasising textures, silhouettes, and materials. When done right, layering creates balance and visual interest. For example, we use a base colour for the walls and add on layers of that base palette as accents to highlight architectural details, furniture and accessories.

#3: Marble Accessories

The current trend of using stone or marble furniture and accessories is set to continue. Whether it’s a marble fireplace surround, a coffee table or a simple tray – marble pieces will definitely give your home a more sophisticated and elegant appeal as well as personality.

Using colour, patterns and textures that compliment each other are the core of sophisticated design

 #4: Textural Indulgence

Using colour, patterns and textures that compliment each other are the core of sophisticated design – mixing materials such as corduroys, velvets and linen will continue to be staples. Tactile finishes like handwoven textiles, and expressive woods will be preferred over slick finishes, as they are more inviting and bring an interior down to earth with a relaxed, comfortable touch.

Brown is seeing a revival in both fashion & interiors

#5: Brown Renaissance

Brown is about to have the most major moment. Fashion has already embraced it, and now we will see it in interiors from lacquered walls to velvet drapery to heavy textured linen sofas.Martyn Lawrence Bullard as quoted in British Vogue

Wood panelled walls to create depth, luxurious texture and personality
#6: Wood Panelled Walls

There is a revival of wood panelled walls to create warmth and cosiness. See how we paired wood panelling with corduroys, textured fabrics and other contemporary accessories in the study of this grand period property. It added depth and luxurious texture, as well as personality. You can recreate the look by using faux bois – painted to look like wood, or even wood veneer wallpaper.

What's Out

#1 Instagram Design

We are already seeing a movement away from the "photo ready interiors" - design copied from Instagram and Pinterest with uncomfortable furniture designed to look good only in an image. We will be seeing a lot more emphasis on creating interiors that not only withstand daily life but also tell the story of those who live there. Our clients are interested in designs that are authentic, they want interiors that look and feel real rather than replicating what you see from others online.

#2 Ivory Boucle & Faux Fur Throws

It seems the ivory boucle trend has reached its saturation point, as have fake fur throws!

Boucle will be used less. Still a wonderful textural fabric, but other types will become more prevalent.

No more fake fur throws! Instead woven textures and knits... anything that shows the hands of the craftsman, always.” Vicky Charles

#3 Fast Furniture

Sustainable interior design is now more important than ever and sustainability is no mere trend in the world of interiors! Homeowners are growing weary of mass-produced furniture that quickly falls apart or looks generic and dated. Our advice - invest in good quality pieces that can become focal points and are built to last.

#4 All White Kitchens

The all-white kitchens seem to have lost their minimal appeal and are definitely giving way to colour! Shades of green, navy, powder pinks and pastels are the way forward. 2024 will see bolder choices and more saturated colours.
